One of the most famous Virgin Mary hymns of all time, the Salve Regina, or Hail Holy Queen, is a Marian hymn dating back to the Middle Ages. While the exact origin and authorship remain uncertain, it is traditionally attributed to Hermann of Reichenau, a German monk from the 11th century. However, some scholars believe it may have been a collaborative effort or evolved, which makes perfect sense since I spend a lot of time repurposing prayers to suit my moment in time. That’s the beautiful thing about prayer, especially prayer to Mother Mary, and that you can ask for and receive blessings at the time you need them the most.
I believe that Mother Mary is so influential in the decisions that Jesus Christ makes, that praying to her daily is an essential part of a Catholic’s life.
Here’s the prayer/hymn:
Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.
V. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God. R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.Let us pray.
O God, whose only begotten Son, by His life, death and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life; grant, we beseech Thee, that by meditating upon these mysteries of the Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise, through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
